Vollrath Company Music Series Family Generations Saturday February 18, 2012 7:30 PM
George Kahumoku, Jr. is a Grammy Award-winning musician specializing in slackkey guitar. Born in Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii, he was labeled a Hawaiian "Renaissance Man" by Maui Time Weekly. He's received the 2006 Grammy Award for Best Hawaiian Music Album for the compilation album, Legends of Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar – Live From Maui , and in 2007 and 2008 for the sequels. In 2009, The Spirit of Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar, was an honored Grammy nominee and the newest compilation. Son, Keoki, is a fifth generation slack-key guitarist who began performing with his father and his uncle in 1990. He, too, is a proud Grammy Award winner for a justreleased compilation CD: Masters of Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar, Volume 2, which just won the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards for Best Hawaiian Music Album on January 31, 2010. Together, George and Keoki have a passion for Hawaiian music and culture that continues through their performances and teachings.
