About the Stefanie H. Weill Center for the Performing ArtsThe Weill Center for the Performing Arts is a 1,150-seat live event venue in Downtown Sheboygan, WI. The Weill Center presents a series of live performances including music, comedy, variety acts, movies, and more. In 2001, the theater was restored to its original Spanish Colonial Revival architectural style and atmospheric theater, as built in 1928. The theater is currently listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Preserve this historic landmark theater in order to provide and sustain a majestic performing arts venue for the community and to serve the people of Sheboygan County and surrounding communities with the opportunity to enjoy cultural, educational, civic, and corporate events that will entertain and inspire.

Overview

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, safety, and overall appearance of the organization's buildings, grounds, equipment, and facilities. This position performs a wide variety of preventative maintenance, routine repairs, troubleshooting, and facility improvement projects while ensuring the property remains clean, safe, functional, and welcoming for staff, visitors, patrons, and guests. The Maintenance Technician proactively identifies issues, troubleshoots problems efficiently and effectively, and helps maintain a safe and operational event venue while preserving our historic building.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance and repairs to buildings, grounds, equipment, and facility systems to maintain a safe, functional, and well-kept environment.
  • Inspect facilities, equipment, and building systems to identify maintenance needs, diagnose issues, and complete repairs or coordinate service as needed.
  • Preserve the historic integrity and architectural character of the building by using appropriate repair, maintenance, and restoration practices and materials, and by consulting with leadership or qualified professionals when work may affect historic features or finishes.
  • Complete general building and trades work, including carpentry, drywall, painting, flooring, landscaping, doors, windows, locks, ceilings, and basic plumbing or electrical repairs within the scope of the position.
  • Perform basic plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and other building-system maintenance within the employee's training and qualifications; identify conditions requiring a licensed or qualified professional and coordinate outside service as appropriate.
  • Obtain quotes and make purchase recommendations for maintenance and custodial supplies as needed.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency repair situations during normal operations, events, and after-hours as needed; obtain quotes and make purchase recommendations for general maintenance and repairs when appropriate.
  • Repair, assemble, install, relocate, and modify furniture, fixtures, signage, shelving, equipment, and related facility components.
  • Perform minor fabrication, installation, and modification projects to support facility improvements, exhibits, events, and organizational needs.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, lifts, and maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
  • Coordinate repairs and maintenance with contractors, vendors, inspectors, and service providers as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, inspection reports, and inventories of tools, supplies, and replacement parts.
  • Follow applicable safety regulations, building codes, and organizational policies while performing maintenance and repair work.
  • Identify opportunities to improve facility reliability, extend equipment life, and reduce future maintenance needs through preventative maintenance and timely repairs.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe maintenance work areas, and storage spaces.
  • Follow required safety procedures, including use of personal protective equipment (PPE), fall protection, equipment safety procedures, hazard communication, and other applicable workplace safety requirements
  • Monitor exterior walkways, entrances, stairs, grounds, and parking/access areas for hazards, including snow and ice conditions, and perform or coordinate corrective action as assigned.
  • Routinely inspect/report conditions involving emergency lighting, exit signs, fire extinguishers, fire doors, egress routes, alarms, and similar systems; secure qualified/licensed providers where applicable.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Five or more years of experience in facilities maintenance, construction, or related field required; experience with historic buildings preferred.
  • Working knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general building systems required.
  • Ability to troubleshoot maintenance issues, use sound judgment, and determine appropriate corrective actions.
  • Able to read and interpret basic manuals, instructions, blueprints, or technical documents.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and commitment to safe work practices.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple requests, manage time effectively, stay organized, and work independently.
  • Professional communication skills and flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and unexpected maintenance needs.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions; and respond to emergency maintenance situations as needed.
  • Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, climb stairs and ladders, work at heights, and lift/carry up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to safely operate maintenance tools, equipment, ladders, and lifts; required training, authorization, or certification must be completed before operating equipment for which such training or authorization is required.
  • Represent the Weill Center professionally at all times.

  • Hourly compensation starting at $25, commensurable with experience
