After Barbra and Adam Maitland die in a car accident, they find themselves haunting and unable to leave their country residence. When a new family, the Deetze's move in, the Maitland's unsuccessfully try to scare them away. Their efforts attract a rambunctious spirit, Bettlejuice. That's when Beetlejuice's "help" quickly becomes dangerous for the Deetze's.
