Weill Center Presents First Live Concert Since March

08/19/2020

Brazilian duo opens the season with electric violin and ukulele performance

SHEBOYGAN, WI (August 19, 2020) – The Stefanie H. Weill Center for the Performing Arts, a 1,150-seat historic theater in Downtown Sheboygan will present its first live show after six months. On Friday, September 11 the entertainment duo B2wins will open the 2020-21 season with a performance equal parts rock concert, jam session, stand-up comedy and dance party – all in one show.

“Our goal is to provide the same high-quality concert experience you expect at the Weill Center, as safely as possible,” says Weill Center Executive Director Katy Glodosky. “We’re excited to have the B2wins fill the room with the energy we’ve missed from live events, while sharing their unique sound and inspirational stories with the audience.”

The B2wins comprise of charismatic twin brothers Wagner and Walter Caldas who made the United States their home after growing up in the violent slums of Brazil. The Twins began playing classical music on violins their father made by hand. They used music as an escape from their reality and taught others, eventually creating their own orchestra to play classical versions of pop songs for local celebrities and dignitaries.

“Growing up in a poor and dangerous place, it’s all about perspective,” the duo said. “We used our experiences as steppingstones to grow from. We want to help those in bad situations realize their current reality doesn’t have to be a future requirement. We desired to move away from those circumstances. We used what we’ve been through as inspiration for our music. Now, we’re living an adventure that we never thought was possible.”

After the duo was featured on National Public Radio in 2006, the twins received music scholarships to come to the U.S. With no knowledge of the English language and the equivalent of an eighth-grade education, they accepted the challenge. Skilled savants, the twins use piano, ukulele, violin and more to create a new sound, influenced from Brazilian rappers to Backstreet Boys, Michael Jackson, Bruno Mars, James Brown, B.O.B., Carlos Santana and more.

“We’re not really defined in a particular genre or sound, but more in how it makes you feel. We describe our music as inspirational, fun, positive. We hope to inspire you to become a better human being or to be happy or not to worry too much,” said the B2wins.

“It's such a unique experience to be piloting the show and taking the audience for a ride. To have everyone looking towards you to have a good time is an incredible responsibility, but an insane joy to pull off. We never get tired of it!” they added. “Every show is entirely different based on the audience and that’s what makes it so special. We rely on the audience to create an unforgettable moment in time.”

The B2wins will perform at the Weill Center on Friday, September 11 at 7:30 p.m. All seating is reserved and socially distanced. Capacity is limited and masks are required. Tickets can be purchased online at weillcenter.com, over the phone at (920) 208-3243 and in person at 826 N 8th Street. The ticket office is open Mondays and Wednesdays, 12 - 4 p.m.
